Tilba Tilba

Turn off the Princes Highway into Corkhill Drive travelling north and you will come across Tilba Tilba. What a pretty setting. You will see the Foxglove Spires sign and the cute Love at First Bite cafe cottage behind it – surrounded by gorgeous trees and gardens. Walk through the gates and you will see The Spires Nursery – what a charming place!

Take time to browse through the antiques, home wares, gift shops and nursery.

Don’t miss visiting Spires Gardens, 2.5 hectares of woodlands and gardens which surround a 100 year old farm cottage. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful open gardens in the region. A highlight is the grand arbour of espaliered Manchurian pears.

Spires Gardens is open 7 days (closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day). For more information, telephone 02 4473 7375 or visit the website: www.foxglovespires.com.au

Central Tilba

Continue along Corkhill Drive. After a couple of kilometres driving through rolling green hills, you will come upon Central Tilba.

The main street of Central Tilba is lined with pretty timber cottages where you will find local art, crafts, gift shops, gourmet specialities, cafes and tea rooms. The village was classified by the National Trust in 1974 to preserve what is considered to be a fine example of an Australian town of its era.

During the gold mining boom of the late 1800s, both Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba were thriving towns with a School of Arts, library, post office, court house, police station, hotel, general store, blacksmith, and many other businesses. The ABC Cheese Factory was established in 1891 and was the first cheese co-op in NSW.

Today, Central Tilba’s mainstay is tourism and hospitality. You will find many fine places to stay including B&Bs, cottages, cabins and guest houses. It is an ideal place from which to explore the NSW south coast. Narooma and Bermagui are within a 20 minute drive from Central Tilba.
